Best Hairstyles Seen AT The SAG Awards 2015

The SAG Awards on Sunday evening were a total treat: regardless of the artists or the productions you were supporting, there was something for everyone to cheer about! And when it comes to the styling and fashion aspect, I’ve got to admit: I’m blown away. We saw some truly amazing hairdos and style statements on Sunday evening and I’m more than just a little bit curious to see how everyone is going to step up their game for the Oscars next month: they’ve all set a pretty high bar for themselves at this last red carpet! Emma Stone

Everyone’s talking about Emma Stone’s bold red lip and ear accessories at the 2015 SAG awards and while I agree with the masses that they’re stunning on her, I’ve got to point out that the hair is nothing short of a stroke of genius too! When you’re planning elements of a look that are obviously meant to steal the show, you’ve got to figure out a way to tie it all together without losing steam. Walking the line between ‘balanced’ and ‘blah’ can be a tricky endeavour, and so many otherwise-stunning looks/ style visions fall apart because people either fall prey to OTT tendencies or end up diffusing the entire effect by playing it too safe.

Emma’s smooth, side-parted low ponytail is elegant and chic and rather sexy in an understated sort of way; and at the same time it’s doing nothing that can detract from the makeup and accessories. The next time you want to go for a look that’s bold without being brash, look to Emma Stone for inspiration.

Keira Knightley

The mother-to-be rocked a rather funky half-up half-down hairdo: I think the loose locks frame her face in the loveliest of fashions, but at the same time there’s the slightest suggestion of a quirky, boho vibe. The hairstyle is elegant enough for the occasion and yet a little bit funkier than what you’d expect on the red carpet. The soft, tousled curls hit just the right note between fun and formal. Love it.

Laverne Cox

The Orange Is The New Black looked stunning with open, straight hair dressed up with a statement crown braid. With the pouf-like volume and the intricate pattern, the braid looks almost like a tiara on Laverne’s head. The hairstyle is really unusual, but by keeping the rest of the hair simple, Laverne manages to look graceful and adventurous at the same time. The great thing here is that you can adapt the look to suit a number of occasions: for a more formal event you can roll the loose hair up into a low bun or a chignon or even style it into an updo or ballerina bun; for a long day out and about you can secure the rest of your hair in a French braid; for a fun lunch date with friends or a dinner out you can pull back the rest of your hair in a perky ponytail and maybe even add a curl to it: there’s so many great ways you can wear this look and make it your own!

Lupita Nyong'o

#SAG2015 #LupitaNyong'o

Lupita Nyong’o is, without a doubt or exaggeration, one of the most beautiful women our industry has ever seen. I’m sure I repeat the sentiment of thousands of people around the globe when I say that she’s absolutely stunning: just look at her! She’s always glowing with happiness and good cheer and she’s radiant in a way that just makes you want to get to know her better. And it doesn’t hurt that she’s got a fearless sense for fashion and beauty.

For the SAG 2015 awards Lupita’s hair was styled into braids and cornrows at the front and the sides, following the natural curve of her head and coming together at the very centre to give rise to a magnificent Afro puff. I love that the transition from the cornrows to the large, bun-like crown is further complimented by two thick plaits going around the updo. Each individual aspect of the hairdo shines in its own right but they also all come together to make for a really striking statement. Along with the hairdo, the makeup and the Elie Saab gown, Lupita’s SAG 2015 look is sheer perfection.

Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush’s faux-bob looked absolutely fantastic on her. With one side pulled back behind the ear and the other arranged in artful ringlets framing the face, the faux-bob was both flirty and sophisticated. It’s also a great hairstyle for when you want to make an impression but you’re also looking to play up other aspects of your look: in this case, the hairdo was a perfect match with the sweetheart neckline and drop earrings Sophia sported at the 2015 SAG awards. The hairdo is a statement in itself, but also a team player!
