Kicking off 2018 with a bang, we’ve got the best hairstyles from this year’s Golden Globe Awards. As the first major event of the 2018 awards season, there were a lot of expectations doing the rounds, especially in the wake of the recent women’s empowerment and representation movements and anti-harassment efforts taking the world by storm.
With many, many female celebrities vowing to wear black as a mark of solidarity against sexual harassment, the night made for a really moving experience celebrating the power of women as well as a beautiful moment in art and fashion, giving stylists, makeup-artists and hairdressers a chance and a challenge to create phenomenal looks while working with a very simple palette. I think everyone did a fantastic job, making for a night that was every bit as glamorous as the years before, and more powerful and inspiring than any of us could have hoped for.
The silvery platinum hair color trend continues to hold strong with Emilia Clarke showing off a crisp, medium bob. The collarbone-length and even ends make the haircut both wearable and sophisticated, while the icy color and the dark roots keep things fun. Win-win!
Margot Robbie’s 2018 Golden Globes’ hairstyle is one of my favorites of the night: the perfect balance between polished and relaxed. Margot’s stylist combined two timeless trends: beachy, boho waves and Old Hollywood waves, creating the perfect marriage by taking the casual shape of the former and the sophisticated finish of the latter. Getting the base smooth and sleek first means that the waves look more styled than your typical beachy vibe and the high side parting and glossy texture make the hairstyle more Red Carpet-ready.
Millie Bobby Brown
One of the most talked-about 2018 Golden Globes’ hairstyles came from one of the youngest actors in the industry: Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown is a tour de force both in terms of her talent and her personal style. From the front, we’ve got a sleek topknot, but the sweet ballerina-esque vibe is balanced out by three edgy Dutch braids running between the base and the bun.
My dear friend Adir Abergel created Saoirse Ronan’s 2018 Golden Globes hairstyle. To compliment Saoirse’s futuristic gown with the metallic accents, Adir kept the hair soft and delicate at the front and funky and bold at the back. The hair is styled into an updo by creating a fishtail braid at the back and pinning it up on the head, with the ends tucked in. Adir finished the look by weaving in a silvery metallic thread into the braid to give it a bit of a punch and play off of Saoirse’s dress.
Celebrating feminine beauty, power and strength, Viola Davis kept her hair natural, glorious and goddess-like: true to who she is as a person and a performer. Viola’s Golden Globe 2018 hairdo is a poem about fierce beauty and the importance of healthy, happy everything!
One of the more minimalistic hair trends of the night came from Zoë Kravitz. The cropped pixie haircut is making a comeback this year, with a universal emphasis on women celebrating their unique features and faces. For that hint of a vintage vibe, keep the sides slightly long and play around with curling the ends or slicking them down or even carefully arranging them in pin curls. To balance out a pixie, keep the texture shiny and touchable for a look that is romantic and modern.
The 2018 Golden Globes were such an inspiring, exciting experience- one that I hope is a sign of great things to come!
